Review – Matrix reference pro 2

Review - Matrix reference pro 2 I Perkune audiophile cablesHello Paul, Well, after being a day late, the Matrix Reference Pro 2 power cable, finally arrived this morning while I was out. After lunch, I was eager to get downstairs and get this beast connected. After a little manoeuvring with all the other Perkune PCs, I managed to get it in the right spot, and connected to my Naim Nap 300 DR.

First impressions? Playing Seal, a great pressing, the soundstage pulled me back into my chair as I was overwhelmed by the improved depth and detail! To make this review even more interesting, I had a good friend come over for a listening session—one we had arranged last week. He had no idea I had added the new power cable.

After my initial listen, we settled in, and I was curious to see his reaction. He’s a very good critical listener, given his musical background. We played Donald Fagen – The Nightfly—a wonderful pressing. My friend was astonished by how amazing it sounded, especially the placement of all the layers of instruments within a soundstage that felt, as he put it, “like being there.” We also listened to Naim’s release of See You in London, and once again, the soundstage filled the room like never before. The layers of sound were so precise, with perfect placement of the acoustic guitar, vocals, and bass lines. He said it left him with goosebumps, it was so lifelike!

Having someone who had no idea that I had connected this amazing power cable before our session is a testament to just how much it brought out the full potential of my system. We indulged in some scotch and continued to revel in the incredible new soundstage this power cable afforded my system. Without a doubt, having input from a friend who knows my setup well—and was able to immediately notice how everything felt “more real” than in previous sessions—was invaluable.

This review took on a new level with his unbiased ears, as he could clearly determine the improved soundstage and the precision of instrument and vocal placement that completely filled the room. The gear essentially disappeared into the background, leaving us with just the pure emotion of the music! And at the end of the day, emotion—amongst everything else—is what we strive for when listening to music through our systems.
