Solar power in the dark????
Solar power is something that is becoming well known and is now certainly more versatile. A person is now able to do so much with the suns energy and power.
I have just spent the most interesting long weekend ever because it has given me the chance to try something that I have been working on for a few months.
The idea was to take the sun’s energy and by use of a solar panel feed the voltage to a battery. I could use this stored power to so many things with and one of which was to develop a portable power unit that could be taken anywhere where mains power was needed.
The Venue
It started with phone call because some friends for UK had decided to visit us in Lithuania. We decided to go to the countryside and have an evening feast. Well, by the time we got everything sorted out and set up the day was turning into night. We were in a small village and there were no other lights anywhere to be seen. Everything became dark and quickly went absolutely black and we could not see what we were doing.
We could not use the car lights as this would have caused a problem and the fire we had, did not really give enough light for us to see what we were doing safely.
It was cold and pitch black and so we needed to come up with a solution and then I realised that I had something that could maybe the answer to what we really needed.
.
The solution
We needed some help and help was on the way. I had been working with my portable Solar power system and I thought well why not try it out to see just how good it would work in this situation. I went and got my Solar power unit and opened it up on the small bench that we were sitting on. What is that my friend said as I open it up to which I replied something that I have been working on and this will be a good test for it.
I have a small 25-watt Halogen lamp in the unit and this turned out to work great. The light it gave, was more than enough to see everything that we wanted to see and so we were able to prepare everything for our midnight feast.
We also had a laptop going and a mobile phone on charge as well and everything still had power after two and a half hours, which was all the time we needed to do what we wanted to do!
The result
The result was better than we had expected and my friends were impressed to say the least, as we were able to enjoy our evening to the fullest.
The picture on the left shows the basic unit, which has the 25-watt halogen light. You can also see two Mobil telephones and a laptop.
In the flight case is the guitar Boss GP10 unit. Standing beside the case is the Roland guitar amplifier and a single Solar panel. This will for up to two and a half hours using a single battery and to see more information on the guitar testing please click here. Guitar blog
