Audiophile bi-wired adapter review. What to do when your speaker cable is a single cable, terminated by two plugs (banana, or spade) and the speaker has two pairs of speaker terminals? Audiophile Bi-wired adapter
The most common, simplest and cheapest solution is to install bridge plates connecting the two pairs of terminals. And many companies are now offering this solution. Another remedy, more sophisticated, is the use of so-called jumper speaker wires fitted with plug or spade connection. They do the job better but are more expensive. Surely, the solution has a beneficial effect on the ultimate sound system.
My Living Voice Auditorium R3 are constructed in such a way. They have two pairs of mounted speaker terminals in each rear cavity boxes. However noble the English manufacturer was, he did not provide any bridging plates or Jumpers!
This problem must be solved by the buyer. The easiest, but not the cheapest option, are speaker cables. Bi-wire or twin cables with four pins on each side. But what to do when the cables cannot be connected to the amplifier. Because this has only a single speaker tap? Here comes the big problem. You can make use the following solution – dual wire (bi-wire) from the composite amplifier (twisted) to two plugs. The speaker – already a classic – four plugs for four terminals. There are some combinations and frills.
I use my Living Voice Auditorium R3 classic single wires (usually these are XLO Ultra plus U6-10) and jumpers speaker ‘Seven rods’. However, this is not the perfect solution, because the cavity of the terminals is narrow and small. And the nut terminals are quite shabby. And it’s not in the speakers for 500 PLN, but for about 20 000 PLN!
When Mr Paul Goodwin from Lithuania informed me he is adding to his range a set of special adapters for bi-wire speaker, my joy knew no bounds. The adapter is a fork in a two-wire cable single conductor. One part is a socket into which a banana plug speaker fits. On the other side (with the splitter) for two completed banana plug. In this way, two single wires can be connected seamlessly to the speaker terminals double columns. Simple and brilliant!
According to Paul Goodwin, the cable adapters are constructed in the same way as the Perkune Extreme series. 24-carat gold-plated collars (for splitting the cables). Also double-screwed connections with 24-carat gold banana plugs. All connections are screwed. The reason is to eliminate the need for soldering, which ensures the integrity of the audio signal and allows you to “hear more music.” The Left sides of a normal speaker cable are connected to the converter bi-wire. the right side of a normal speaker cable is connected to the converter bi-wire. Two-wire cable conversion provides a quick and easy way to convert a two-wire speaker cable to the four-wire bi-wire.
The use of aluminium foil brings better sound insulation and helps to eliminate unwanted noise sources. The films also improve protection against heat and moisture. Paul justifies the presence of aluminium foil in the following way: The ability of sound absorption by aluminium foil allows you to receive unwanted noise directly at the source. The aluminium foil provides the effect of 85% as a noise insulator. This means that only 15% of the corresponding sound passes through it and is an ideal component for use in audio cables. The Cables are wrapped in aluminium foil (which is a dielectric first line). Subsequent duplex Corporate solution ‘AirGap’, provides isolation from external interference and vibration.
Finally, a few words about the influence on the sound. However, each additional interference with the components of the audio path frequently brings destructive effects for the ultimate sound. Therefore, it is important that those are interference do as little as possible and that they are the least burdensome sound.
As I wrote, the plaques (jumpers) speaker than I use that for many years – they always brought a deterioration of sound. Until now I’ve always used jumpers speaker, knowing they were harmful to keep sound than a conventional plaque. However, the use of the Perkune Audiophile bi-wire adapter (in place of jumpers) made the sound clearer and more extensive.
Of course, this is not a big change, but significant and noticeable. It sounds like gained more substance and credibility. It became a tad more solid and resolved. The Perkune audiophile adapter is reasonable and a complimentary choice and with me permanently!
Price set of four Audiophile bi-wired adapter – from 397 Euro to 497 Euro (depending on the version and length).
